CILMERI 1282 COMMEMORATION 2011

Returning to the work of the Cymric Consciousness society 'Cofiwn' founded in the early 70's and demising in the mid 80's. This blog will inform on the beginnings of 'Cofiwn' and explain the inspiration for it being established and the aspirations that motivated it's advance and achievements. This 'Ysbryd Cilmeri' blog will in main be an introduction and at same time tell the story of the annual patriots gathering at Cilmeri 1966 - 2006 towards a future Adfywiad Gwladgarol Newydd.

Y Nodyn - A Sign! What we now refer to as the symbol for Awen: is an invention or at least condemned as an invention of Iolo, he propounded that “God created the world by the melodious utterance of his holy name, and that the form and figure of that name was , being the rays of the rising sun at equinoxes and solstices conveying into focus the eye of light”. (Poems, Lyrics and Pastoral, Edward Williams, Welsh MSS Society. This symbol was known as the “Nod Cyfrin” (Mystical Mark) and is represented within the Great Circle of the Gorsedd, which continue to be erected in the same precise manner today. The “Maen Y Gyfamod” (Covenant Stone) stands a few feet outside the actual circle, marking as it does the eastern cardinal point, within the main circle and to the left and right of the “Maen Y Gyfamod” lie the portal stones. The North stone faces sunrise on the longest day, the South stone faces sunrise on the shortest day. This alignment in relation to the position of the “Maen Llog” mark out the three rays of the “Nod Cyfrin”, bestowing the circle with the voice of God and the vibration of his Holy name. I include this bit of information from the web to add some interpretation to photograph above, it may also interest you that Toni Lewis himself heavy into Celtic Mysticism adopted the mark of the 'Awen' as badge of the Patriotic Front often used as Beret or shirt badge and as on armbands even.

The End - No Way! You have only just read the prologue?

Other information:

* An excellent selection of Cilmeri'40 commemoration 2006 photographs on Flickr Web Gallery, do remember my Cilmeri'40 Photo competition. See earlier posting for details.

* You do not have to wait until St David's Day for your next event, there are other events worth attending other than just Cilmeri and Dydd Dewi, if your a serious Adfywiad Gwladgarol and not just one of those 'Tartan Taffs'. For instance why not start off the new year as you mean to go on by visiting the Memorial at Garn Goch, Llwchwr, Abertawe, this was placed there by Cofiwn supporters and other patriotic sympathisers to mark the Cymric Victory at the Battle of Llwchwr fought on the 1 Ionawr 1136. (For other, see Annual Commemorations Information Posting)
The Memorial is on Garn Goch Common close to Garn Goch Hospital but note the common will be very swampy wet this time of year and parking place is not very convenient, so visit perhaps best left to time of improved weather. Maybe when you go out for a new year drink remember to toast this great victory at Garn Goch that began a successful war against the Anglo - Normans, although it did lead to the death of princess Gwenllian at Cydweli the Cymry were to go on to win a great final victory at the Battle of Cardigan in October of 1136. January is known as the month of the wolf and for sure following this battle the wolves and ravens fed well on the corpses of the Anglo - Normans, further information will be found on the web, just do a search. On Ionawr 25 celebrate Santes Dwynwen if your a Christian or if you want to be Pagan and go Druid then do not forget to celebrate Brigad Celtic Goddess of fertility/birth, poetry, creativity and gift giving. Her feast days are of course Imbolc 1 - 2 February and her flower is the snowdrop.
Note Snowdrops can be grown in pots, too late to plant bulbs now but you will get potted snowdrops at Garden Centres and in Florists. Of course if you see any growing wild, pick one and wear in your button hole or cap/beret.
Well I hope you have/will enjoy working your way through this 'C'40C2006 TB', a product of my tortured patriotic mind. I know it has been a labyrinthian route, for me a Cartharthic Journey but nevertheless for you an interesting, informitive and maybe educationally of some good patriotic purpose. Some of my comments and criticisms may annoy you but they are not unfounded as far as I am concerned, sorry I canot engage in discussion and debate about such matters but I am a ''greybeard'' now and as previously said enroute toward patriotic retirement. There ain't an ounce of struggle left in me and I have no ''puff'' for talk! talk! talk!. I do have acres of recording patriotic remembrances and history to get on with and that's what I intend to do whilst another generation can take up any slack in the struggle. Perhaps there are no 'Adfywiadwyr Gwlatgarol' left to embark on continued struggle, most now seem to want to dress up in a Kilt (Ye gods) and learn to bang a drum (That's ok!) with the highth of their ambition marching in an annual Cambria Mag/Band ''Tartan Taff'' Parade in Caerdydd on 'Dydd Dewi'. So it seems the ''Welsh Warriors'' I have known are long gone or are fast disappearing?
A future generation of 'Adfywiadwyr Gwlatgarol' sleep but one day they shall arise, untill then may the ''White Eagles Wings fold around them'' (A prayer to Isis inspired that) and may the ''Red Dragons Breath keep them warm''. My god that was good, almost as good as the medieval mystic and patriotic Bard Harri Web but not of the right stuff to get me into the company of the Red Poets? So no grants for me that's for sure.
Remember,
Run with the Red Stag, free in the wild woods of Cymru.
But Hunt with the ''Grey Wolves''.
Hwyl!
Gethin ap Gruffydd ('Iestyn') Ex Kitchen Porter and proud to have worn the Kitchen Porters Dark Blue Overalls as simalar to such worn by the Catalan Anarchists during the Spanish Civil War, if not out an out Anarchist, I certainly am a believer in 'Popular Autonomy Action' as in style of Italian Revolutionary Movement 'Lotta Continua'. If push came to shove I would be more up for a 'Peoples Commune' rather that a ''Sham Senedd'' and I would also find preferable a 'Merthyr 1831 Commune' to a restored Machynlleth 'Senedd Glyndwr 1400'.The 'Spuds of Wrath' (see photos in various posts) period in my life has left me with a great interest in the history of the 'Wobblys', particularly in the USA. So just why and how did I become an Adfywiadwr Gwlatgarwr' (Radical Alternative Nationalist Activist)? The answer may be found somewhere in this blog perhaps? Whatever, I remain a Welsh Remembrancer, in previous life a Medieval Monk also seen at a number of medieval re-enactments as photo shows and have to live with the historical reality of being Co founder of Patriotic Front 1965 - 1970. PF/FWA VOLUNTEER 1965 - 66 and again in 1969 and in years that followed Co Founder of Cofiwn, Ty Cenedl and in time also a Co founder of Embassy Glyndwr. Potentially a Pagan but in reality only a Neo - Pagan with leanings towards Ishtar, Isis and our own Aerfen which exposes my interest in much that is of the Occult (Hidden) and Esoteric. Now a patriotically semi - retired 'Grey Beard' but sometimes 'Grey Wolf', Cymric Consul to the Count of Foix and Aspiring writter of 'Welsh Gothic Horror'. All of which keeps away from an ASBO.
Gethin's Gothic.................
.................Something 'Dark and Dangerous' your way moves?
Ta! Ta! for now.
