CILMERI 1282 COMMEMORATION 2011

Returning to the work of the Cymric Consciousness society 'Cofiwn' founded in the early 70's and demising in the mid 80's. This blog will inform on the beginnings of 'Cofiwn' and explain the inspiration for it being established and the aspirations that motivated it's advance and achievements. This 'Ysbryd Cilmeri' blog will in main be an introduction and at same time tell the story of the annual patriots gathering at Cilmeri 1966 - 2006 towards a future Adfywiad Gwladgarol Newydd.

The True Ysbryd Rali Cilmeri Will Endure.
Open letter to Patriots re report in Western Mail 4. 12. 04.

Western Mail Headline: Llywelyn the last rally ‘no longer for extremist’.

Pic: 'Vortex Cilmeri' or if you wish my my personal Worm Hole to the Fantasy of Planed Cilmeri? Why not Join me in a journey to an annual journey back in time - to 11 Rhagfyr 1282.

To whom it may concern.

I find comments made by Dr John Davies of the Abaty Cwm Hir Heritage Trust and Councillor Ray Davies of Caerffili in the aforementioned issue of the Western Mail a necessity to comment on. Councillor Ray Davies will know exactly what I mean when I say “one man’s extremist is another man’s patriot and perhaps freedom fighter”. We are aware that Cllr Ray Davies is a both a supporter of the Palestinian people and a peace activist thus of course I presume a pacifist. The question begs to be asked is whether or not he supports the armed struggle of the Palestinian people against conquest and occupation of their land as I would.. However, I would never condone Palestinian “extremists” use of ‘suicide bombers’ nor shelling of civilians by either side in this war of Liberation.
.Pic: some Cilmeri ''Extremists'' aka Patriots but not the one in the middle with a ''jacfinger'' about to perform a simple patriotic brian procedure whilst ''Socialist Republican" Gareth Westacott pulls a pretty ''spooky face''.John Page smiling as usual but whose the ''Ginger Guy?'' Yes it's the ''Invisbible Man''.

These questions may be answered at Cilmeri very soon in the mean time some personal opinions on these matters, I do not want to go into a big debate about what is and what is not “Extremism” despite having been called an extremist” and a “firebrand” and possibly still regarded as such despite the mellowing of passing time. I am these days not of mind to turn up for the annual Cilmeri Rally, age has brought with it the distaste for discomfort (possibility of getting soaked by rain or freezing in the snow which I usually associate with Cilmeri). So in my aged cowardly weakness I have avoided this annual patriotic gathering but will make effort to attend this year as my personal response to the Western Mail article. I shall now make supreme effort to attend this font and focus of ‘Adfywiad Gwladgarol’, even though at this time of life my beard is grey and I no longer be much a of regular radical activist. However, I may yet become with my fellow members of that ageing band of ‘Llegn y Cilmeri’ rejuvenated and revitalised as ‘Grey Wolves’. Suffice to say on matters of “extremism I remind that without those labelled as such there would be no Cilmeri Commemoration and it certainly would not have continue to endure with out those who by their enthusiasm and earnest beliefs have often been decried as “extremist”. More often as not such patriots were plain speaking and not mealy mouthed as “middle of the roaders” as often ''fence sitters'' are, not least the abundance of ''Devolution Dillitantes'' and ''Tartan Taffs'' that seem to prevail over the dimminishing ranks of 'Adfywiadwyr Gwlatgarol', true Radical Nationalist not latter day ''Pobl Plaid Poppy''.

This aside what disturbs me is Cllr Ray Davies statement I got involved because it is a platform for me to remind people that throughout history the Welsh by and large, have been a peace -loving nation. Even though they fought ferociously against the England and led French armies, they have always done so in defence of their language, culture and way of life”. It is historical fact that the Welsh fought for almost a 1000 years in defence of their land both on the ‘East bank of the Severn’ (now known as England) and later on the West bank in their Cymric homeland, in this struggle they were largely led by a ‘warrior aristocracy’ and a largely ‘free armed people’, though let us not forget there did exist an enslaved ‘Bond’ and later Anglo - Norman serf population (later to become Glyndwr’s Bare Foot Welsh Doggis, largelly peasant army) . Yes that’s the ‘patriotically correct’ view and both patriots and pacifist have to live with the fact that this “peace loving nation” engaged in the most brutal and bloody civil strife and war between contesting chiefs and princes. Not least this “peace loving nation “ indulged itself in the most hideous blood letting of family and kindred feuds leading to massacre, blindings and castrations. I must prevail against a blind patriotism or pacifism that looks at our history through ‘rose coloured glasses’, I would also prevail against pacifists who seek to present their version of Welsh history, cutting cloth to fit a pacifist platform of both ‘crachach political and cultural correctness’ which smacks of an ‘opportunism’. Plus let’s not forget our armed workers struggles of the 19th century, would the Labour Councillor Ray Davies say that it was the right of the workers of 1831 and 1839 to arm them selves to wage war on the capitalist class that oppressed them? However, it is interesting to see here how a ''Pacifist'' Dic Penderyn has become the "Welsh Martyr Hero" and not the radical and militant leader of the revolt Lewis Lewis aka Lewysyn yr Heliwr.
Pic: shows 'CAYO' perhaps our best known "Extremist" and true 'Adfywiadwr Gwladgarol', Cayo you will note was an Horse Breeder and also an Horse Breaker, so too was Lewsyn yr Heliwr. HHHhhhmmm!!! that's interesting?

I would not criticise Cllr Ray Davies for attending and speaking at Cilmeri, every Welsh person as the right to do so including “extremists” but before he makes remarks as I do not think it should be abandoned to the extreme nationalists’’, Cllr Davies needs to appreciate a number of factors associated with the Cilmeri Commemoration. I would however take issue with Cllr Ray Davies attempting to make of Cilmeri a platform for pacifism and make of the commemoration an anti – war movement rally regards Anglo – American Adventurism in Iraq, which I also oppose. I also oppose Russian Militaristic adventurism in Chechnya, the Sudanese terror in Darfur and many acts of imperialist aggression and capitalist exploitation in many parts of the world.
Pic: A Peace Dove, NO! The Dove of Ecsclaramonde of Montseguer, a Cathar Priestess who walked into the flames rather than betray her faith. Her spirit rose as a dove from the flames, an inspiration of Cathar Bravery Resistance we should inform ourselves of more.(See Web and in particular look for the Counts of Foix (pronounced 'fwa').
I am surprised that the Abaty Cwm Hir Heritage Trust as organiser of one of the Cilmeri Commemorative events has put emphasis on ‘Peace and love’ at Cilmeri and ‘flower power’ at Abaty Cwm Hir and not focus on the national promotion of Welsh history and 11 Rhagfyr as our national day of mourning for our ‘Cilmerian dead’, our prince Llywelyn III, the 18 heroes of his body guard and not least remind of the truth that there was no battle at Irfon Bridge but rather a massacre of unarmed Welsh soldiers. (See writings of Anthony Edwards on this subject). Plus not forget slaughter of Welsh royal families 1282 – 1315. I would not of course expect to see the ACHHT concern itself with the true 'Ethos of Cilmeri' which implies continued opposition to the English Monarchy and Resistance to Investitures of an Englishman as ''Prince of Wales''.

Pic: Shows an Investiture 69 Bust of Charles Windsor, figure head of the ''Carlist Movement'' in Wales, chief movement promoting the English Monarchist claim to sovereignty over our Cymric homeland. One would think we would see lots of Welsh Republican action in opposition to this Pro Brit Movement but no, Welsh Republicans are all talk and no action and ain't that the truth or otherwise we would see this Welsh Republican Flag more often being waved in protests against the visit of the English Monarchy to Wales below:
Picture shows a solitary Welsh Republican Flag being waved at visit of English Royal Family to open the Sham Senedd on 1 - 3 - 2006. (See Message of Treachery)

The annual Cilmeri rally was inspired in the 1960's by a Plaid Cymru “splinter group” (New Nation) launching at Cilmeri their magazine; this motivated the Patriotic Front to begin organising of an annual Cilmeri ‘Independance’ rally, initially but eventually in main coming to focus on resistance campaign against the investiture of an English Pretender "Carlo" as Prince of Wales. Cilmeri since, has always been the focus for a continuing 'Adfywiad Gwladgarol' (Patriotic Resurgence) and of continuous opposition to the English monarchy's false claims on our nation. Such has since been central to the ethos of the annual Cilmeri commemoration and it is this anti – English monarchy stance that has made Cilmeri Commemoration attractive to both "Welsh Republicans" and even "Welsh Socialists" as example including Labourite Socialist as Cllr Ray Davies.
Picture shows Toni Lewis, co - founder in chief of Rali Cilmeri a few years before his sad death on 8 Tachwedd 2005.
I suspect that Cilmeri Commemoration will continue to represent its roots in patriotic resistance to the eventual forthcoming attempt at an an investiture of another pretender “William of Wales”. I also suspect that it will be those now and in the future disparaged as "firebrands'' and "extremists" who will be to the fore of organising another Anti – Investiture campaign and not those of ''middle of road mentality'' who strike me as being also "fence Sitters". Although I suspect many who declare themselves ''Radical Nationalists'' and Posture their ''Knee Jerk Patriotism'' at Cilmeri Commemoration are in reality more ''Posuers'' rather than true 'Adfywiadwyr Gwlatgarol'. This accusation may be equally be pointed at many of the ''Good Ole Boys" of Cilmeri who to my mind seem to have "Lost the Plot" and see Cilmeri Commemoration as but another opportunity for they to spill tears into their beer of ''Peripheral Patriotism" rather than remain the true 'Cilmeriaid' and 'Adfywiadwyr Gwlatgarol' they once were.
Picture shows Gareth ap Sion, Patriot and ''Romantic Republican'', long time 'Hen Cilmeriaid' and 'Hero of the Adfywiad Gwladgarol'. Gareth was one of the few who against all odds managed to penetrate the ''Ring of Steel'' around Caernarfon on 1st July 1969 to carry out protests against the Investiture of 'Carlo' as Prince of Wales. This picture I hope carries the message that there are lessons to be learnt from former 'Adfywiadwyr Gwladgarol'.
If attacks are to me made perhaps they best kept for 'Y Crachach Newydd' - England's Client Tribe in Wales as to be sure you do not see many of they at Cilmeri remembering 1282 as their perants might have done in the 60's or even in the 80's. Thus may I point out to the ''Patriotic Knee Jerkers'' and "English Haters" of Rali Cilmeri the fact, we have more to fear from the treachery within than much else. Trust me, that next time around many of those who opposed the 1969 Investiture will be first in the queue to grovel, not least those who have found fame and fortune in the "Welsh Language Industry", any one who would describe themselves as a ''Radical Nationalist'' and ignores this is more a "Suspect Simpleton".
Picture shows Adam Phillips of Balchder Cymru, Adam is one of 'Y Cilmeriaid Newydd' and hopefully a future 'Adfywiadwr Gwladgarol'. Already Adam has shown enthusiasm and commitment to struggle and has lead protests at Llandielo and in resistance to Hafod Quarry, Johnstown, Wrecsam. Adam is also one of the latest of a long line of 'Convenors' and organisers of the traditional Rali Cilmeri, whilst others are doing little to revive Ysbryd Cimeri and our Patriotic Covenant with the Ethos of Cimeri Adam is to the fore waiting for others to follow.
In conclusion I suspect that the organisers of this Cilmeri Commemoration are moved by the spreading disease effecting the ‘Bourgeoisie Nationalist Movement’ with it’s acceptance of it’s failure to deliver the dream of Freedom. These "Devolution Dillettantes" have achieved little but making of Wales a neo – colony or even an internal colony of the European city state of Cardiff. This failure has led to ‘Bourgeoisie and Cultural Nationalism’ to embracing concepts of ‘Cosmopolitanism’ and so called ‘multi-culturalism’, accepting a ‘Cymric Corporate Culture of Appeasement with neo – colonialism’. To reject our homelands true ‘Cymric roots and heritage’ and for what? open your eyes and you will see, it’s quite simple they have sold out to the ‘Saxon Shilling’, to amongst other things ‘nepotism’. Such ‘Rejectionists and Revisionists’ now seek to distract from truth and reality by means of diverting attention else where and thus attempt to make of Cilmeri Commemoration a pacifist platform with an Anti – War Rally rally, all of which is desperately non -sensical and contemptuous of our own history and a blatant and cowardly retreat from the many true influences of the ethos of Cilmeri which will remain to forever inspire as a Rali Adfywiad Gwladgarol’. But I warn these ‘Rejectionists and Revisionists’ take care you do not throw the baby out with the bathwater, for it is then you that will stand as ‘extremists’. Yes! Extreme in your Dilettantism.

Picture shows Cayo Evans, Dai Bonner and Denis Coslet at Tafarn Cilmeri (year unknown, as his name of person who took photo. It's not my copyright). All three were amongst the first 'Cilmeriaid' and also true 'Adfywiadwyr Gwladgarol', sadly all three are no longer with us but seated in the 'Cave of Heroes'. Dai Bonner's ashes are actually bueried in the ground of the 'Sacred Acre' close by the Cilmeri cenotaph, soo too soon will Toni's ashes in part be scattered there. Please remember this and thus double reason for all to show dignity whilst treading the soil of Cilmeri's 'Sacred Acre'.

Finally to paraphrase an Irish saying "There can be no peace in Wales whilst that ground at Cilmeri holds our Cilmerian dead".

G.ap Gruffydd. ‘Adfywiadwr Gwladgarol’.
Picture shows my younger self at Tafarn Llywelyn, early 70's?

I would urge all patriots to make and bring to Cilmeri commemoration placards bearing the slogan as follows:

Cofiwn 1282
SAY NO TO THE ENGLISH MONARCHY
NO ENGLISH PRETENDAR AS PRINCE OF WALES
Adfywiad Gwladgarol.
Picture shows 'Cofiwn' Ivy Leaf tattoo on some ones hand, is this a true sign of Radical Welsh Nationalist ''extremism?'' Whatever, beats the ''Three Feather Duster''.

2006 Post Script: Since writing above much water has passed under the bridge, my friend and co founder of ‘Rali Cilmeri’ Toni Lewis has died. I witnessed on St David’s Day Welsh Nationalists follow the road of "Commercial Cambrianism" and "Tartan Taffery" in promotion at a St David’s Rally the promotion of a Message of Treachery to the Sham Senedd. The above was made worse by virtue of fact that so many nationalists were so weak willed in following the Pied Pipers of "Tartan Taffery" instead of protesting against opening of the Sham Senedd and presence of the English Monarchy that day. To my mind made even worse by virtue of fact that many who made the wrong choice on 1 March 2006 actually attend annually the Cilmeri Rally and see no contradiction or hypocracy in their actions. After the ''bother'' of Cilmeri 2004 I was not of mind to attend Cilmeri 2005 but Toni died and I though it was incumbent on me to make journey to the Cilmeri Cenotaph in 2005 to make tribute to Toni. This done I left and went to Aberdew believing that between Cilmeri 2004 and 2005 I seen nothing in the prior organisation of the 2005 rally that reflected the true 'Ethos of Cilmeri' has I have remarked on above.
Picture shows contemporary 'Adfiwiadwyr Red Shirts' of 'Balchder Cymru' marching from Tafarn Llywelyn to Patriots Rally at Cilmeri Cenotaph, I believe in 2003?
Hopefully Rali Cilmeri 2006 will witness a renewal of a Patriotic Covenant with the Ethos of Cilmeri, when this is done and seen to be done I may not be of mind that 'Y Hen Gilmeriaid' have ''lost the plot''. It is perhaps opportune regards this 40th anniversary Cilmeri Rally that it’s organisers (who ever they be?) reflect on such matters and let us all know exactly in letters writ large what exactly is the purpose of Cilmeri Commemoration 2006 other than providing opportunity of occaision for Patriotic Posing, Posturing and Knee jerking? Untill such time I will spend the Cilmeri commemorative day at Aberedw but make my own pilgrimage to Cilmeri Cenotaph and Abaty Cwm Hir on our ‘Rememberence Sunday'. Although I do not suggest that Aberedw be venue a full on alternative commemoration and change a 40 year tradition, ironically I helped to establish in 1966 but at this moment in time I am unsure if I should continue with personally. I hope that Cilmeri Commemoration 2006 will be able to speak to myself and other ‘Adfywiadwyr Gwladgarol’ as to whether or not Rali Cilmeri 2006 does have continuing radical nationalist purpose or perhaps should be the "Last Picture Show" for "Good Ole Boys" and the growing "Ruretanian Regiment of Tartan Taffs" and their ''Ethos of Devolution Dillettantism'' usually seen in recent years hovering about in the Shadows of the Sham Senedd persueing their own vested selfish Interests.
Wow, got that off my chest alright! You might not agree with it, but do I care, sorry to say NO! I have been there and bought the T - Shirt, I was an Adfywiadwr Activist in the 60's and remained one right up to my "Patriotic Retirement" last year, when on 31 March 2006 I made personal protest at the fraud of the Sham Senedd in the ''building of disillusionment'' itself. When those who may disagree with me have committed themself to Adfywiadwr Action I might just listen to their oppinions and respect them but all I am seeing at the moment is a lot of posing and parading? Please note I reserve this criticism to those who consider them selves "Alternative Radical Nationalists" in particular self perceiving so called "Welsh Republicans" who I see spending more time in the closet of their forum chatter box rooms rather than on the street in Adfywiadwr Action.
Ymlaen Adfywiadwyr Gwlatgarol.
